A Fond Farewell to Fall

Over Columbus Day weekend our daughter Alina and son-in-law Gonzo rented a house for the family to get together in the Adirondack Mountains.  It was a wonderful trip and balm for the soul.  A part of my heart will always be in the Adirondacks.

As part of Soma's Wandering Camera linky, I thought I'd share some of my photos from the trip.  I have not been able to be my regular blog hopping self or keep up with emails this last month, so I am disabling the comment feature and hope you'll just enjoy looking at the pictures.

But first, I'd like to share a fun and easy idea from Emma Jeffery (@ Hello Beautiful) for Spoonflower that would make the most memorable and cherished gifts.  Just click on this link to see:

Many Thanks! & a Trilling Experience

I'm sending out a BIG THANKS to Jacque at Lily Pad Quilting for hosting a wonderful Pets on Quilts Show this year!  This is a really fun annual linky event, with so many great posts and a lot of laughs.  Participating in and/or following along is a sure-fire way to enjoy the hi-jinks of quilters and their pets and meet friends, both new and old.

Also I want to express my gratitude to the voters and for the fact that the Charlie & Wilbur Mug Rug that I made for Ruth at Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner won the Pet Themed Quilt category.  There were some mighty amazing quilts in that category and it was a very close contest.   I'm jazzed over a few new ideas for next year too!

It was really thrilling to win a bundle of Sharon Holland's absolutely beautiful Tapestry fabrics.  These fabrics are wonderful, with beautiful colors, and they are very soft, both to touch and see. If you look closely, you will notice that two of them have a very subtle cat theme. Thank you to Sharon, for being such a generous sponsor of the Pets on Quilts event!

It's time for Wandering Camera!

Autumn is my very favorite time of the year.  We haven't seen much in color changes in the leaves yet, but 'tis the season for Farmer's Markets to be at their very best!  Pumpkin Time has come and who can resist pumpkins?

We visited a beautiful and colorful market, but forgetful me did not bring a camera.  Luckily my daughter Bean let me use her cell phone and these are a few of the photos, below. I'm surprised at the photo quality being so good.

Linking up with Soma's monthly Wandering Camera event over at Whims and Fancies.

Bouquets by the Bucket
A Happy Companion
Cherry Tomatoes - which were yummy! (We bought some.)
Handmade Pottery
Herbal Delights
The World's Best Breakfast Sandwiches! (at least Gonzo and Jim think so.)
Going out of my gourd over pumpkins!

Also not to be missed:  Soma is a master of paper piecing pattern design and she is currently is holding a Lego Harry Potter Quilt Along at Whims and Fancies too.  The detail she is able to get in her blocks, while at the same time keeping the lines clean and simple, is amazing!

Suzy Webster at Adventurous Applique and Quilting has published her book "Folk Art Quilted Traditions".  She's one of the last authors to make it through the AQS editorial process, because the AQS is leaving book publishing.  I'm so glad she made it too, because this book is a gem!  I just love folk art and the Suzy's designs are inspirational, to say the least.  The blog hop / book tour begins next Monday, with wonderful presenters and I'll be taking my turn on Friday.

Here is the schedule below:

A Trilling Event!

Our little granddaughter Eden just gets more and more fun.  She's eight months old now and every day she seems to change.  It is really great to see her strong personality growing.  One of the many hilarious things she has started doing is trilling.  Her dad Zak caught a video of her performing and I just have to share it here.

Here is a link in case the embedded video does not work:  Eden's Trilling Video

Pets on Quilts is Coming Soon with Lots of Fun and Prizes!

Hey there everybody!  Just in case you haven't heard: One of the most social and fun events in QBL (Quilting Blogland) is starting this Sunday at Jacque's Lily Pad Quilting....

Pets on Quilts 2016
August 14th through 24th

This blog linky party is packed with great posts every year and truly this is where I have met so many of my blogging friends.  Jacque has lined up a whole bunch of wonderful prizes and sponsors.  (Including moi - I will be giving away a copy of "Crafted Applique: New Possibilities")

You don't have to have a pet to take part in the contest and show.  Pet themed quilts are one of the categories.  Every kind of pet is welcome too and each year there are some interesting entrants.  I'm pretty sure you don't have to be a blogger either, because there are usually Flicker entrants and I bet Instagram photos would work too.  (Do you hear that Gonzo?  I expect to see a photo of Willow.)  So gather up those cuddly pets, those crawly pets, pets that bark, meow, chirp, snort, and whinny!  Take some photos and come and join the party!

The latest BIG NEWS is that the American Quilter's Society is leaving book publishing.  Some of you have undoubtedly read or heard the public announcements.  They will still be producing their magazine and running the quilt shows, both of which have bright futures and ever growing popularity.

A few of you have asked how this is going to affect my book "Crafted Applique: New Possibilities", which came out only 4 months ago.  Thank you for checking up about that!  What this decision means for all the AQS authors is that there will not be any further printings of their books unless they or someone else buys up the publishing rights.  This is especially rough on authors whose books just came out or are just coming out.  As one said to me, she now views her book as a very expensive business card.

So all our books now have a finite number of copies left in print.  If you have been waiting to buy any of the recent AQS book releases, now would be a good time to do it.  If you can purchase the book directly from the author, that is even better.  Especially keep your eye out for the very last authors who will be coming down the pike.  There are some really great books still to be released!

Kaboom!

This is going to have to be a post where I've disabled commenting.  That's because my laptop zonked out after an automatic update a couple of weeks ago.  Thank you very much Microsoft.  HAL was only 18 months old and is now completely kaput and of course, just past his warranty period.  My ability to spend time at this big computer is limited, so I've been rarely online and have tons of catching up to do.  I'm buried in emails.  If you should have heard from me, but haven't - that is why.  Give me another nudge if you need to!  I'll be up and running again in time to participate in Pets on Quilts.  Hope to see you there!

"Accuquilt Go! Baby" Giveaway! & Final Week of the Crafted Appliqué: New Possibilities Blog Hop

This week our final five bloggers will be presenting their posts in the Crafted Appliqué: New Possibilities Blog Hop.  If you missed any of the previous stops, they are well worth going back to and visiting!  We've seen so many fun, original, and beautiful ideas for using the fray-free, iron-on, washable Crafted Appliqué method and it's been a real treat!   This week's posters have some exciting things in store for you too!

My husband Jim actually felt bereft over the Memorial Day weekend because the Hop was on holiday and he couldn't check in to see what new things people had dreamed up.  He's been having as much fun as I have.  :)

The blog hop calendar is shown at the end of this post.  You'll have a chance to win a free copy of "Crafted Appliqué: New Possibilities" at every stop!  I'm also starting a new giveaway today, but first I want to show you another one of the projects in the book, so read on!

Catmint Cottage - Sewing Machine Cover

Catmint is an herb that can be used in a tisane to help alleviate feminine complaints.
Visiting your favorite quilt shop will also have this effect.

Catmint Cottage - from Crafted Appliqué: New Possibilities

One of the things I wanted to try to do with the Crafted Appliqué method was to build a little three dimensional quilt shop using architecture themed fabrics and then "plant" a garden around it.  I did the garden by fussy cutting a floral fabric and layering the flower bunches into beds.  As you can see, I was able to get quite detailed with my cut outs and I didn't have any trouble with fraying. I even made trellises and railings and window grilles.  Can you find the tiny birdbath and a cardinal in the photos below?  They are actually fashioned from flower and pot bits I found in the print.

This was the first project I made for the book and the most challenging, but it was also a lot of fun.  It is big enough to fit over my vintage Singer 301. If you wanted to make something larger or smaller, you could change the enlargement instructions for the pattern.  I have been tempted with the idea of making a cat house. Can you imagine all the possibilities?

Accuquilt Go! Baby Fabric Cutter Giveaway!

This week you can comment for a chance to win another great giveaway:
an "Accuquilt Go! Baby" Starter Set

One of the exciting things that I learned about the Crafted Appliqué method of fabric preparation is that it works perfectly with die cutting!  It's a really fun way to get lots of fray-free, iron-on, washable appliqué cutouts made quickly and uniformly.  I love to use mine this way and thought you might like to see it in action. The photos below show a sequence of steps as I ran treated fabrics through the cutter.

Die Cut leaves made with the Crafted Appliqué method

1.  To enter for a chance to win a Go! Baby, simply leave a comment on this post.  If you'd like a topic, you could tell me which of the book projects is your favorite so far.  (I've been showing them in posts all this month, with two more left to go.)

2.  BuzzinBumble followers, both new and old, can have a second chance to win by leaving a second comment and letting me know how they follow my blog.

Everyone is welcome to enter the giveaway contest and I'm willing to ship internationally.  Already, I've sent book giveaway wins to Sandra in Singapore and Helen in Ireland, which is pretty darn exciting!

All the giveaways here on BuzzinBumble will run right up until the end of the Crafted Appliqué: New Possibilities Blog Hop.  Winners will be randomly drawn on June 4th and I'll be announcing all the winners during the final post of the hop on June 5th.  If you'd like to see the first four giveaway contests, there is still time to enter!

Just check here:

*Please note*- If you are a no-reply blogger, remember to leave your e-mail address so that I will have a way to contact you if you win.  If in doubt, leave your email, because if I cannot contact you, you won't be able to win.  :(

Don't forget to visit the Crafted Appliqué Blog Hop Stops for a chance to win a copy of my book and possibly other prizes too!

Can't Wait?

What if you can't wait to see if you won a book and you would like your own copy of "Crafted Appliqué" ASAP?  There is no need to wait - you can purchase one now.  If you do win, but have already purchased the book, I will gladly reimburse the cost of the book instead.  In the meantime, you can purchase a signed copy here on BuzzinBumble, or buy one from the AQS shop, or through Amazon.

Special Announcement

On Sunday, June 5th, I'll be announcing the winners of all the giveaway prizes here on my blog.  This will be where you can first find out if you were a lucky winner in one of the BuzzinBumble giveaways.

Also in that post, as a way to say a very HUGE thanks to my blog hop participants, I'm going to turn the spotlight on them and I'll be running one last giveaway.  I'm planning something special and hope that you all will like it and will take the opportunity to follow some very wonderful quilt bloggers, if you haven't already!

Below is the Blog Hop Schedule.  All the blog titles are live links, which I will keep updating as participants post their reviews.
